Hi All,

We're trying to automate our purchasing, but we're still facing some challenges. Some vendors require a minimum value to process the order. At the moment we're using the comment section to fill in these requirements, but there must be another way in Business Central.

What are your ideas/solutions on this matter?

The requirements we're facing are as followed:

  • Minimum order value
  • Free transport if order reaches a value
  • Order via webshop, mail or EDI
Hope some of you have better solutions for us, rather then using the comment section.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Business Central has no built-in vendor fields for minimum order value, free freight threshold, or required order method.
The best solution is to add a few small custom fields on the Vendor Card (Minimum Order Amount, Free Freight Amount, Order Method) and add simple validation on Purchase Order Release to enforce the rules.
This avoids comments and gives clean automation.

    Regards,

The above requirement is not met in standard BCE . You need to do customization . This is not done for any of our customers .

I'm just thinking Aloud ! IF you feel it meets functionally do it in sandbox !!

1)Create Checklist Master contiaining below feilds and Vendor No , Effective Date
    1.1 Vendor No
    1.2 Effective Date
    1.3 Minimum Order Value
    1.4 Free Tranportation Value Limit
1.5 Boolean Field :Order , Mail
2)Create Checklist Page covering the above fields
    3) Whenever Purchase Order is raised  , Write validation script to meet above demands
    4) In case of new requirment , you can add new fields and checklist . Effective date will help you in case of amendment or changes in policy 5) IF above validation works then proceed with processing of Purchase Order

if you feel this helped , Please mark as "Verified"

    Hello,

Instead of using comments, you can manage vendor-specific conditions in Business Central by creating a structured setup: add custom fields or a linked table for minimum order value, free transport threshold, and preferred order method; implement validation logic on purchase orders to enforce these rules; use workflows for approvals when conditions aren’t met; and configure alerts or reports to help buyers optimize orders.

This approach keeps data organized, automates compliance, and streamlines purchasing without manual checks.

As mentioned there's nothing out of the box that would meet those requirements, but you can add 3 simple fields to the vendor card/purchase order header to store that information.

    Hi,

Business Central does not have a built-in feature for vendor minimum order value or free transport thresholds. Custom extension is the cleanest solution for enforcing minimum value and free transport rules automatically.

    Thanks
