Log/audit read access on a record

Hi All,

We have a requirement to audit each read access on account entity. i.e which user accessed, time user accessed.

Read access can be either from CRM UI or Calling CRM Web Service from c# code  or calling WebAPI using Get/Post..etc from JavaScript.

Is it possible to audit/log every read request???

Thanks

Krishna

    Hi bala,

it's not possible - you will need a "retrieve" plugin to intercept all retrieve requests. Once you have that, you might log those requests into a separate custom entity

Yes, what Alex said.  It would require a nontrivial amount of work to audit all read accesses, and would be a serious performance hit.

    Hi Alex, Wayne

    Thanks your replies.

If we retrieve a record using WebAPI, will it trigger the Retrieve plugin???

It is not a CRM Retrieve operation right? It is GET request right??

    Hi bala,

it is still a retrieve on the CRM side.

WebAPI / SOAP / etc.. those are all "interfaces" to the CRM internal "engine" where you have "create", "update", "delete", "retrieve", etc..

Check this - it applies to the calls made through WebAPI as well:
