Why do receipts printed from my Server look different than recieptd printed from POS on the same printer?

I use Microsoft RMS 2.0 and have it installed on my Server on my desk and on a networked POS computer.

When I view the journal in Store Ops Mgr and print a receipt to my POS receipt printer (Star TSP100U) I get a receipt with nice compact printing but when printed from POS, the font is larger causing descriptions to be truncated.

How can I make the receipts printed from POS look the same as the receipts printed from Store Ops Mgr?

Is the Star set as your receipt printer in Manager | Database | Registers | Register list | select the register | Receipt printer 1 or 2 and using the 40 column receipt template?

In the Star's properties, is the paper type set to receipt paper? There are 2 places it needs to be set, one is Advanced settings and the other is the paper type in the General | Preferences | Settings Paper/Quality

Hi Jeff, thanks for taking a stab at this.

Yes the settings in Store Ops Mgr are as you say.

The Star properties were set to letter.  I reset them to 72mm Receipt and rebooted the computer.  The receipts still print exactly the same way they have been.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with OPOS vs Windows print drivers.  While setting up a new POS machine, I accidentally set up the Star as a Windows printer and the receipts were printed exactly as they were when print is initiated from my server (the way I would like).  But once it was set to OPOS, so that it also controls the cash drawer, it went back to the larger format printing.

Here is a link to the 2 print formats I'm getting.

You'll see not only is the font higher quality and smaller with less space between lines of text, SALES RECEIPT and DUPLICATE RECEIPT are black print on white background on the left and white print on a black background on the right.

Yes, it looks like they are set differently, Windows/OPOS.

WE only use OPOS when the controlling of the drawer is required, otherwise we use the Windows driver for Stars.

Try setting the paper width in the Receipt's properties to something like 2.65 so the letters don't run off the paper. Manager | Database | Registers | Receipt Formats | select the first Properties button | change the width | have the Register(s) exit POS and re-enter to take effect.

It will appear as what ever your default printer is.  ex.  if your desktop/server has a default printer of an inkjet,  IT will look like a reciept on an 8.5x11 page.  The easy fix is to change the default printer for that particular pc.
