Attach file to a Note in latest CRM Portal

I am trying to use the ‘Attach File’ functionality of an entity form to upload documents to CRM Notes, but it does not seem to be working. In the definition for the entity form I have set ‘Attach File’ to true and ‘Attach File Storage Location’ to ‘CRM Note Attachment’. I have also set entity permissions against Notes to allow all authenticated users full access to Notes. When running the portal it is possible to select a file and submit the form without any errors, but on checking the record in  CRM no Note has been created and no file attached.

I have previously implemented exactly the same functionality in ADXStudio 7.21 which has worked correctly.

    Hi Charlie,

Did you also think of the following?

    - enable entity permissions on the entity form?

    - set entity permissions for the entity against which you create notes?

    Best regards,

    Bart

    Hi Bart

Thanks for these suggestions, but they do not seem fix the problem.

I'm going to have a look and see if there are any more settings/permissions that I can update, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has seen the file attachment functionality working in the new Portals release.

    thanks

    Hi,

On create of records, no issue., but we had the same issue where the 'attach file' = true did not work on updates.
Left it blank and created a Entity Form Metadata record instead on the form you want it enabled.
I would start with the following settings for a general test:

    Type: Notes

    Position: Above the field
    Use attr. Descr. Property: Yes

    Create enabled: True

    Edit enabled: True

Delete enabled: False (but can be true of course)

File Attachment location: Crm Note Attachment (can go for Azure blob if your attachments are quite large)

    Accept MIME Type(s): */*

    Restrict MIME Type(s): false

    Max file size (kb): 5000

Entity permission against annotation is needed as well.

    Hope it helps,

    Regards,

    Wouter

I have spoken to a Microsoft Support Engineer and found the cause of my problem. On the Entity Form there are 3 fields in the Add Attach File section that need to be set:

    • Attach File = true
    • Attach File Storage Location = CRM Note Attachment
    • Attach File Save Option = Notes

Unfortunately I could only see 2 of these fields - Attach File Save Option was not available. This is because I had created my portal using the Basic Portal as the template, which is missing the solution (PortalTimeline) that is required for this field. All the other starter portals include this solution, so this is only a problem if just the Basic Portal has been installed.

I was able to install PortalTimeline using a solution file provided by the Support Engineer, but it is also possible to just install another portal from the template gallery.

Thank you to Bart and Wouter - your suggestions were all correct, and as you both mentioned it is important to set all the entity permissions.

    thanks

    Hi

The reason that I was having an issue was because I had created my portal using the Basic Portal template which doesn't include PortalTimeline. If you create an additional portal using a different template (such as Community Portal), this should install the required solution into your environment.

Thank you for sharing the solution, however I wanted to know how does the multiple file attachment works.

We have the tick box on the multiple file attachment on the customer service form but on the portal customers are unable to attach or see the multiple file attachment options.

They can only attach one file for a comment or notes.

Would really appreciate your all feedback.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

We are using Attach file functionality of an entity form to upload documents to CRM notes entity. It's working file as OOBT behavior.

But while uploading can we change title & description as per file attached ?

It means - if we are uploading document name as TestDocument.pdf then title can be file name.

    Regards,

    Abhishek.

    Hi All,

Comments section is working fine only on Edit case form but not on Create Case form. Whereas I have done all the required settings to enable comments in my form.

Second thing is , comments only accepts image file as attachment but no .txt and .pdf files . Is there any settings available for that?

Please reply ASAP as it is really urgent ..:)
