Login Error after Upgrade - Resolved - but created another question System Password

Ok I resolved this. One of the strange way GP works.

My password length was 16. Which works in GP utilities but not with GP.

Also when I setup my GP system password - it is 16 characters and it works.  (But I need to change it to 15 - How do I change the system password)

Thanks

I moved 4 databases running 2015 to a new server and upgraded them to 2016 on the new server.

I am able to run GP Utilities with the sa userid

But when I launch the GP application with the sa userid I am getting an error:

**Login Failed. Attempt to Login Again or Contact your system Administrator**

Again if I launch the utilities I can open it without any issue.

Please advise

You can upgrade from directly from GP 2015 to GP 2018. GP always has allowed upgrades from two versions behind.

Year-End KB 3102158 or later = version 14.00.0898 or later

    or to quote Derek

To go along with what has already been stated, the 'Upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018' hot topic found in PartnerSource and CustomerSource also has this information in it.

In it, it states the following:

    Upgrading from: 14.00.1159 / U.S. Year End / KB4468812 U.S. Year End

Patch Requirement for the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 Upgrade:  U.S. Year End / Version 18.00.0672 or later

There is an upgrade hot topic for each version of Dynamics GP and it's highly recommended these are looked at before performing an upgrade where you're going from one major version to another, as these hot topics contain Upgrade paths, System Requirements, links to Upgrade Resources, Service Pack Download links, Upgrade Supportability notes and more importantly, Critical Upgrade Notes for upgrading to that version of Microsoft Dynamics GP.

I have version 2015 and you cannot upgrade directly to 2018. It has to be done in 2 steps - first to 2016 and then to 2018.

    Thanks

Just a silly question: why would you upgrade to GP 2016 and not the latest GP 2018 R2 version ?

Aside of that, did you follow the Microsoft KB878449 as Richard suggested ?

    support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-transfer-an-existing-microsoft-dynamics-gp-microsoft-small-busi

There are a lot of steps involved with the SQL security when moving a GP instance to a new SQL server..

    Refer to this KB: 878449.

Also, make sure the database owner is DYNSA.

Did you run the required scripts when moving to a new server?

Can you log into SSMS as 'sa'?
