Installing CRM On-premise on a Server on Public IP

Hi all,

I need some suggestions/clarifications on my following concern.

I have access to a server on cloud, now if i install CRM Application on this server will it be accessible to all (outside the local network) as this Location is a Public IP.

If yes , then how will all the users be authenticated from outside the network?

Awaiting Expert Suggestions/Answers.

Note.  Is this possible without using IFD?

Regards

Prem Prakash

You will have to configure IFD.

    Hi Vikas,

No other way round?? As i was wondering it would be accessible from every where because it will be hosted on a public IP, now if we sort out the authentication thing it can be successfully be used from any where.

    Anyway thanks for your reply!!

    Hi Prem,

I think it should work just fine without IFD - there will be no single sign-on, though, since, if I understand you correctly, it'll be a different active directory. So your users would have to provide their credentials when they open CRM. Also, if I am not mistaken, Dynamics client for Outlook might not work without IFD in this scenario.

Check the system requirements, though.. You have to have an active directory there - otherwise, you won't be able to install CRM.

Actually, you may want to try it with the latest version.. We had this problem at some point, and we just proceeded with NTLM authentication at that time(which is what you'll probably get in this scenario):

    Hi Prem,

Without IFD you can acess the CRM using HTTPS bindings. But if you want to use the organization service or any third party application[like Outlook Client] to acess the CRM then you have to have IFD configured.

Please mark my answer as verified if you find it helpful.

    Thank you so much Alex,

Thanks for the much needed exposure on the scenario .

So i assume your implementation was successful ?

I too shall go ahead with it :).

    Hi Prem,

it was, but there are limitations (like Outlook, for example). And, also, NTLM support in Dynamics is sort of a grey area.. At that time, it worked. If it's going to work with the 365 version - technically, CRM is sitting behind IIS from the authentication standpoint, so I don't see why it would not work even if it's not a recommended approach.

    Hi Lakshmisha,

Do you imply to say, i can't register any Plugin/Custom Workflows to the organization,

as without organization service any of the CRUD operations shall not occur.

As long as you can install CRM there, you'll have the organization service(can't get CRM without it), so you'll be able to use workflows/plugins. It's more about external connectivity. Some tools might not support this kind of deployment unless you have IFD (Outlook would be one example)
