printable manuals

I have two users at different customer sites both on v2010 where the Printable Manuals won't open on their machines.

The Dex.ini is pointed to the correct location and GP runs fine for them except for the manuals.

Any thoughts?

Adobe X is not supported. Try Adobe 9 please.

    Re: printable manuals

    Thanks Terry!

All the cases I found were because of the file association, and we've covered that.   If further troubleshooting is needed, I'll have to ask you to open a support case with the 'System Manager' support team.  Please be sure to list out all the things you've tried, or they'll go through the same things again.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

    Cheryl

    Re: printable manuals

this is a v2010 install so the path is slightly different C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2010.

    Both are pathed there.

    Association is correct

She is an Admin on the machine

She has full access to the Microsoft Dynamics directory and all subfolders

I excluded the Microsoft Dynamics and all subfolders from the Symantec Virus software (again her machine is the server, so don't want to totally disable the virus software).

The TOC pulls up but clicking on any of the links for the pdf files do not work.  They can however be accessed from the Documentation folder directly.

    Re: printable manuals

    Thanks Terry,

Usually it's the file type association.  Here are some other ideas:

    1. Verify the paths are correct in the Dex.ini are:

    DynHelpPath=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\

    DexHelpPath=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\

    2.  Did you verify the association of the file?

To change the association, you can click on Control Panel|Default Programs and click "Associate a file type or protocol with a program'. You should see that the .CHM file extension is associated with the 'Compiled HTML Help File'. If you don't see this, please change it.

    3.  Log into the machine as the administrator and see if it works.

    4.  Make sure the user has access to the GP code folder and sub-folders.

    5. You could install a new GP code folder to test with.

    6. Disable any anti-virus programs or spyware.

    Thanks,

    Cheryl

    Re: printable manuals

    Sorry Cheryl

The Printable Manual list does pop up (it also pops up from within GP).

However using your example of Financial/General Legder - nothing happens.  It is like the code to open the PDF isn't running

    Hi Terry.

I need you to be more specific. Please first confirm that if you navigate to the Documenation folder in the GP code folder, RIGHT-click on the TOC.chm, and select the HTML executable, does the Printable Manual list pop up here?  Then if you click on Financial|General Ledger, what happens exactly?

    Re: printable manuals

Microsott HTML Help Executable is the only one there.  Double clicked on that and the Table of Contents opened.  Went to a couple of the folders and tried the actual modules and those don't open (that may not have been clear when I started this thread - sorry).

    UAC is off

    Re: printable manuals

    Hi Terry,

    Try these tips:

    1.  Make sure the TOC.chm is located in the Documentation folder at the path given above. Right-click on the TOC.chm file and Open With.  The list should contain "Microsoft HTML Help Executable'.  Can you open it now?

To change the association, you can click on Control Panel|Default Programs and click "Associate a file type or protocol with a program'. You should see that the .CHM file extension is associated with the 'Compiled HTML Help File'. If you don't see this, please change it.

    2.  Make sure UAC (User Account Control) is turned off in the Control Panel|User Accounts

    Please repost if any questions.

    Re: printable manuals

Yep, the PDFs are there and they can be opened.  Created a shortcut to that directory for her, but still need to figure out why it won't open.

As an bit of information, her machine is also the server.  The other customer who has the same issue however is just a client machine.

    Re: printable manuals

There is a documentation folder in the GP code folder.  You can navigate directly there to access the pdf documents.  The default location is :  C://Program Files/Microsoft Dynamics/GP/Documentation.  If you can't open them directly from the documentation folder, then make sure Adobe Reader is installed.
