Error message when I create new item

In the Store Operations Managers | Configuration | Item, I have set up the automatic item lookup code. However, when I create a item, it throws error message "The Item Lookup Code must be unique". I have checked there is no duplicate item lookup code. I also have done database check and reindex. They do not have any item in offline inventory and have inactive items in the database. Could anyone please tell me how to fix the issue?

    Check Alias table for any available lookup codes.

    Check you are not using current item lookup code as another item alias and you are trying to assign this alias as a new item lookup code

    I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. I ran a select * from alias query in the administrator against the alias table and it turned out there was a blank alias assigned against a a stock item. As I clicked on ok the system was obviously seeing the blank item lookup code before it tried to assign an automatic ILC. I deleted the blank code and the behaviour returned to normal.
