organisation service versus web api

Hello all,

Sorry to post such a vague question, but we have CRM 2013 and will be moving to dynamics 365 or 2016 on-premise.

I am just at the start of considering the coding implications of the upgrade, so pardon my ignorance.

For CRM 2013 we have an SSIS import package / c# script which uses the Organisation service to create/update contacts.

Will I defnitely need to re-write all this now using the Web api instead?

Can anyone advise on what legacy (2013) code/connectivity will have to be replaced - and by what - for the move to 365.

From the small amount I have seen (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/mt770369.aspx)  the web api looks for more complicated/verbose than what I was used to with the organisation service functions, so I'm hoping the organisation service method is not going to be binned altogether???

Any advice gratefully received, - thanks,

- Seamus

    Hello,

Soap endpoint is still supported in D365 so you have no need now to migrate your code to use WebApi.

Many thanks Andrew, that is great news - is the web api just an optional alternative then, and do you know of any plans to deprecate the SOAP endpoint some stage down the line?

It is in plan for Soap endpoint to be deprecated but not earlier then in the next major release so feel free to use SOAP for now but consider migration to WebApi in future.

    Thanks again Andrew.
