Configuring Organization for MS Dynamics CRM 2016 keeps failing

Hi all,

we upgraded to MS CRM 2016 last week and we keep getting an error message when trying to configure the organization for MS Dynamics CRM 2016 Outlook:

We have started debugging the error with the diagnostics tool and found this error:

10:39:53| Error| Exception : Cannot open Sql Encryption Symmetric Key because Symmetric Key password does not exist in Config DB. at Microsoft.Crm.Application.SMWrappers.CrmServiceForOutlook.Execute(OrganizationRequest request, Boolean wrapException)

at Microsoft.Crm.Application.SMWrappers.OutlookSubscription.IsPrimaryOnlineClient(String clientId)

at Microsoft.Crm.Application.SMWrappers.OnlineSyncStrategy.IsPrimaryClient(String id)

at Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.PrimaryConfigurator.SetPrimaryOrg(ServerInfo serverInfo)

at Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.PrimaryConfigurator.SetContextValues()

at Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.PrimaryConfigurator.Configure(IProgressEventHandler progressEventHandler)

at Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.Config.ConfigEngine.Configure(Object stateInfo)

When checking the key in MS CRM, the key is active:

Any suggestion on how to proceed ?

In the meantime we found the reason for the error. The organisation showed status "failed" after the upgrade which we overlooked in the beginning.

We removed and reimported the organisation (https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/71195). The configuration of the organisation in the Outlook client worked fine afterwards.

Hi Nithin,

We've also checked on that one but configuration looks correct and since the problem only occures for certain users, I don't assume the error to be a CRM configuration issue.

Thanks Karsten, we've seen that article already and it doesn't fix our problem.

We use https and did point 2 and 3 right after the upgrade.

We have found out that it works for some users and for some not.
