Reformatter?

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 200

We are currently running two instances of GP 2010 (one company in one instance and two in the other) and would like to combine these. I've been told that since the companies were set up with different maximum segments we need to buy Reformatter to bring all under one instance. Has anyone else had this issue? Is Reformatter our only option? Any experience Reformatter that can be shared would be great.

Thanks!

    Kelly,

I am not sure of the Reformatter. But the below link should help you.

As for the chart of account, the PSTL account modifier can be a good consideration as illustrated above. Although, there are many other things to be taken into consideration, most importantly the exchange rates and currencies which are stored on the Dynamics DB level.

Please never hesitate to share any further inquiries,

Kelly, is the account format the same in both instances with the exception of the max segments/lengths?  Are currencies the same in both instances?

    Frank,

No the account format is different. But as I understand it (I'm new to my role here) the fact that the max length of the segments is different is our first hurdle.

Kelly, Reformatter is the only game in town for changing the Account Framework.  Changing the Account format can be accomplished with PSTL, but not changing the Account Framework, which is what you need to do if you need to change maximum available segments.  I've used the CRG suite of tools in the past, and they are very easy to use and work well.

    Hope this helps,

I second Frank's suggestion. Reformatter from CR Group is the only way to change the account framework.

    OK,

I'll throw my hat into the ring here. I have used reformatter in the past to change the account framework and it works beautifully.  I've seen some folks boasting about some SQL solutions, but my advice would scream 'don't do it'. Buy reformatter, follow the instructions and be done with it once and for all.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

You can also go through your partner and have them open a advisory case with Microsoft to do a Framework change as well. Otherwise Reformatter as others noted is the only other option.

Hi, as alluded to above, you will run into other issues. Both installs of GP will have different DYNAMICS databases. So anything contained in here will be an issue. Currency setups - not just enough that the currencies are set up - look at the Currency Indexes...these must be 100% the same. FX rates attached to currencies, Currency access, Users, User security, company interid's - what if two companies from two different installs share the same company number. there is a lot to consider. Also, look at the registration keys for both installs. Do they entitle you to the exact same functionality? Is the same functionality installed [compare the Dynamics.set files for both], if not you will need to synch them so that GP doesn't try and run Utilities on a company after the transfer.

When you say combine - do you want to combine the data...or do you just want all three companies on the same server? If just all on the one server, perhaps then the multi tenancy functionality is all you need? With this you can have multiple named DYNAMICS databases. So in theory you can port over dynamics and company databases. Although you would need to look at renaming one of them so they can co-exist on the SQL instance.

    Ian.
