Manufacturing Module Client Installation

Posted on by 75,730

I was driving and I got a call from one of my clients. They were asking for their registration keys for the Manufacturing Module. When I asked why they needed them they told me that had just installed the Manufacturing Module on the server and they were are the screen asking for the registration keys. I asked them why they installed that module when they do not manufacture anything and they told me they just wanted to see what was in the module.

My question is they have over 30 workstations. Do they now need to go to every workstation and install the manufacturing code? Is there a  way to uninstall the manufacturing code? They have over 12 companies and have installed the Manfucturing Module into all companies. Is it safe to just leave the code there and never run the table updates for manufacturing?

I am prepared for a very ugly Monday morning. Will they be able to process their normal payables, receivables and sales order processing tasks wihout loading the Manufacturing Module code into each company? Should I enter the registration keys and log into each company as 'sa' to complete the process.

By the way, I had also asked if they done a backup before they did this and, of course, the answer was no.

Is not possible for them to have it on a Test Company alone till they are on a "learning" mode? So it would be just one company and only a handful of machines (for those who want to learn or know about MFG).

Second thing that was a bit annoying was the backup story. I believe you would have advised them of a proper backup plan after this. Backups are very critical nowadays as clients are more and more enthusiastic to learn their ERP product.

Thank you for your prompt response. Right now the only computer with the Manufacturing Module code is the server. I did walk them through upddating all the databases and they told me that it was successful for all companies. From your advice, I will tell them to only install the Manufacturing code on the workstations they deem necessary. I will now enter the registration keys for that module and hope for the best. Normally I prefer to have all machines with the same code, but in this case I will make an exception.

    Richard,

Clients that do not have manyfacturing installed will have no effect on their normal processing, just do not install the module for the clients and you will be fine.

For Server installation, if they have installed the product without upgrading the database OR upgraded all databases, that would be fine you can leave the module installed on the server or just remove it from Add/Remove programs, keeping in mind that you will have to reinstall the module -if upgraded on all companies- on every upgrade or manually remove the module information from the database.

Otherwise if they got errors during upgrading the company databases you need to make sure that you restart the manufacturing installation and rerun utilities to proceed with the database upgrade or you will never get your database upgraded!

    Wish you a shooth Monday!
