State Tax not calculating properly

(0) ShareShare

We have an employee who lives out of state and his with holding is not being calculated accurately.

Within the Employee State Tax Maintenance Window the employee is listed, inactive is unchecked

and the employee is listed under filing status Maried with 2 or more exemptions and 2 dependents listed.

However in actuality this employee should have a filing status of Married, with 0 exemptions and 2 dependents which is not an option.

What might I try to resolve this?

Thank you

Mark

Thanks for the update, Mark.  I looked at the LA tax table and found that the option for Married w/1 Exemption is not an option.  I am not a LA tax expert so I would recommend contacting the LA tax board for a detailed explanation of how they would handle this situation.

However, you could try the following combinations in a TEST environment to see if the figures calculate as you expect.

Select the Married w/2 or More Exemptions and check the Dependants checkbox under the Include: section of this window.  Run a test pay run for this employee and see if the withholdings are correct.

If that does not work for you then I recommend contact the state of LA for assistance.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Mark,

Is he taxed in the state he lives in and where he works or just one of them?  What state(s ) do you have assigned to him?

Let me know and I can check the my tax tables as I do not have any changes added to the tax tables (I use the original table values).

    Thanks,
