Multi-currency

I found several posts about multi-currency, but I didn't find this specific answer: I have a client that is getting ready to roll out to Europe; and while their German counterparts may very well be entering in records in Euros, can I just report everything in Dollars if I base the reports upon the (base) fields since Dollars are the base currency?

I appreciate any help, as always.

thanks!

~Brian

    Hi Brian,

Each record can be assigned a single currency, so that all money values on that record are entered in the selected currency. A user can specify a default currency to use when creating records, but there are also mappings from some records so that for instance, quotes will adopt the same currency as the customer.

Once a record has currency defined, any money values entered and saved are automatically converted to the based currency using the exchange rate that is in the settings at that time. BOTH the local currency value and the base currency values are stored on the record at that point in time and they are not recalculated if the exchange rate changes UNLESS the money value is changed at which point the latest exchange rate is used to re-calculate the base amount.

If your base currency is USD and there are records being entered in EUR, you can do advanced finds, views and reports in USD because all records will have a USD money value (base) irrespective of the local currency that was used.

What you can not do is compare & total up money values from two records together that have different currencies where neither are the base currency - you would always have to compare and total the base currency values.

Does that make sense and answer your question?!

It's a really interesting subject, and I've had to implement data warehouse solutions outside of CRM in the past to provide multi-currency reporting where my clients needed to compare currency A against currency B and not always in the base currency also using the exchange rate at a specific point in time.

    hth,

    Scott
