Hi Guys
Standard approval workflow works by requester manually sending an approval request. Is there a way to automate this - say when a PO try to release (before release) it triggers the approval request based on approval workflow

You can't.
BC does not allow you to release if there is an approval.
You can make a customization to send approval when user release it, but it is always better to train user to click Send Approval.
I know BC doesn't allow but my question really is how do we create a process to automatically trigger approval flow. i.e customisation and which code unit etc to use
I don't think its a better process to manually send approvals, ideally system should trigger approval based on an event and maybe future version will have a front end configuration for this
That's why the event is when user click Send for Approval.
If you want to connect release to approval, you need to plug to Approvals Mgmt. codeunit.
