Change item Unit of Measure on Purchase Line using Drop Shipment.

So my client buy items from vendor in meter UOM but they sell it to the customers in meters. So, they create a sale order for item and in the sale line the UOM is feet and Drop Shipment check box is selected. But than they create the purchase order for drop shipment and the UOM on purchase line is feet but here client wants to put meter and out of the box this cannot be done because of validation error.
So, what is the solution to this problem.

Is this happening even if you have it set on the item card to use a different UOM for sales and purchase? If it cannot be solved with this then a modification which subscribes to the OnBeforeInsert of the purchaseline or maybe something exists which is more exclusive to dropship where you change the UOM. Assume the validation error is to do with the purchase line ensuring it marries up exactly with the sales line.
