Problem with Minimize/Maximize of GP in Citrix

I'm trying to assist a customer with the following issue with Minimize/Maximize of GP in Citrix.

Since the end of December, we've started to experience 2 different type of problems with Minimize/Maximize of GP:

1 - As you know when we launch GP, the GP main page and the GP login page will come up. Sometime when we launch GP, only the GP login page window will come up allowing us to put our username/password and then we can select our GP Company but the GP Main page never comes up; it stays Minimize in our task bar. As a result, when we get connected to GP we can't do anything because the Main page gets stuck in the task bar.

2 - Sometime if we minimize GP, we're having issues to bring it back up; we cannot Maximize it back. We are force to Close our session as we have no other option.

We are using GP only in a Citrix environment with 3 different Citrix servers. We've noticed that these 2 issues above are happening only on 2 of our Citrix servers.

I've tried editing the dexini to read 'WindowsMax=TRUE' but does not consistently resolve the issue.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Beth

In our Citrix environment, when we see "weird" unexplained behaviours, it is usuaaly due to corrupted roaming profiles.  With the user logged out, we delete the user's login from each Citrix server they log into and the rename the users Terminal Services (TS) profile.  When the user logs back in, a "fresh" copy of everything is created and usually the strange behaviour is gone.  If you've been "killing"  sessions, then your risk of corruption is much higher.

When you encounter problem #2 have you tried pressing <Shift>+<F2> which will cause the client to swith from seamless to windows mode?  Or pressing <Ctrl>+<F1> to bring up the Citrix server's task manager to switch to the Dynamics GP process directly?

This issue is due to the lines in your Dex.ini. When a user minimizes GP and then closes out of GP it will write this into the Dex.ini so the next user will open GP with the settings from the previous user. We have had some customers use separate dex.ini files for each user which will workaround around this issue. Also please note that in GP 2013 Web Client you would not run into this issue as Dex.ini information is saved per user.

Jonathan - we created a separate dex.ini in the individual user folders on the Citrix server, changed the target short cut to include c:\Users\%USERNAME%\dex.ini, changed windowposx=0 windowposy=0, but the users minimize a screen in GP they can not maximize.  We are running GP2013 and Citrix XenApp.

Any suggestions on a next step?

What is the WindowsMax line set to in the Dex.ini? I would take out the WindowsPos lines and set the WindowMax line to equal false and then login.

Also keep something in mind - if your users sometimes use dual monitors, the main GP could be on a monitor that is no longer there (we actually assist with issue in a RDP/Citrix environement a lot).  You need to 'move' the window back to your monitor in order to actually see it.

Click on the software icon in the task bar, hit Alt+Spacebar, select move in the contextual menu that pops up, then use arrow keys to bring the window (which is in a negative position) back into the monitor area. This easy solution resolved the problem for me. Hope that helps.

This issue occurs on RDS as well.  Our solution it to hover the mouse over the icon in the task bar.  It will show an thumbnail preview window.  Move the mouse to the title bar of the preview window, right click and select maximize.  It should display the screen again in full.

Jonathan's instructions are correct, but you should also only make the changes to the Dex.ini when you can guarantee that no-one is using Dynamics on that machine.  This means checking for Dynamics.exe processes and not looking at the ACTIVITY table.

This is because the setting is updated when Dynamics.exe closes and this will overwrite the changes you have made.

Please see this article on how to get windows displayed again when they are off screen.

Also note that GP Power Tools has an option (on by default) which ensures windows always open on the visible desktop.
