Dynamics CRM 2013 on-premise server-side sync attachments

Hi,

I have logged a bug for a client with support regarding an issue with server-side sync attachments, more specifically images. If I send a mail from Outlook, gmail, outlook.com, Notes etc. with an image inline, it only appears in CRM as an attachment if using the e-mail router - not the server-side sync. It was my understanding that functionality wise these two e-mail system integration methods would be comparable. I have installed UR1, but this was not listed in the KB as a fixed issue, and sure enough it did not fix it, so I am hoping support can resolve this for me.

Has anyone else seen issues like this with on-premise and server-side sync? Confirmations would point to an actual bug and not corrupt setup/config.

I will update this post with more information as I get it from Microsoft (as far as possible and allowed at least).

Thanks.

Brgds

Henrik

The error has been confirmed and reproduced by MS support, and I am currently awaiting a hotfix. No details known as of yet, but would of course expect it to appear as a bullet point in a future rollup.

    Henrik,

I've logged his as a bug as well and am awaiting the same fix.  It does appear to work if you change the Inbound E-Mail method to use a Forward Mailbox.  It's not ideal, but may provide a quick work around for scenario.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy for both the confirmation and the workaround. The escalation engineer assigned to my ticket sent a reply today:

"So far, the issue seems to be related to the way we are asking for email content from Exchange. It seems we get the image information through exchange, exchange hands us down the image information but to make is user friendly we strip some information out which actual when inserting into the body tags drops the actual exchange CID of the image. This happens regardless of the email type the client might be using (RTF or HTML), I am investigating on the code to find the actual place where this issue happens. I will keep you posted on my findings. Till the issue is resolved the simple workaround would be to use the Email router software to track your emails into CRM."

    Henrik,

I've been following your other post on this issue as well and I can confirm it has not been resolved with Update Rollup 2 and I will be testing with the Leo release over the week-end.

That's a crappy work-around for my client because it's not just as easy as switching to E-Mail Router because of some other business requirements.  Surprised that this issue was missed in their initial testing, it's pretty important for Contact Centers.

    Jeremy
