Account Maintenance VCR Buttons

For whatever reason, and only in Financial --> Account Maintenance, the VCR buttons in the bottom left corner of the screen are not visible.  Users were using a modified screen for this task, so I checked on it in modifier and the buttons are there and set to visible.

Thinking it was something wrong with that particular modified screen, I set all users back to the default account maintenance screen, but the buttons were still missing.

Taking it one step further, the same problem exists after migrating the data to our 'test' GP 2013 system that we will be migrating to live shortly.

Is there a security setting that prevents users from navigating through accounts using the VCR buttons?  I'm out of ideas...

    RE: Account Maintenance VCR Buttons

    Hi Jkatulka,

I was perusing the forum this fine Thanksgiving day (I really do need to get out more :)) and I read this thread again. It looks like the query was solved by Almas. Is that right? You may not yet know why the third-party product chose to disable the VCR Buttons, but you know which one is doing it. Is that correct?

If all of that is true, it would be great to see this as an 'answered' question. If there is more to resolve, please let us know. This is a hot thread with many folks hoping to jump in a solve the problem.

One thing I wanted to note that I didn't see in the thread is to let you know that there is a report you can print so that you can see which triggers are registered to what and by which product. Go to:

    Microsoft Dynamics GP>Tools>Customize>Customization Status

and then hit the Print button, you'll get a cool report that reveals information about the triggers registered on the object events.

    Here's what it looks like:

I think it's a great report to help you hone in on the specific trigger causing the problem. It's one of those gems that so many folks don't know about.

With this information in hand, you could use the Support Debugging Tool to write your own Dex trigger to make the VCR buttons visible again <grin>.  Probably not a good plan without the original third-party product developer's blessings.

Anyway, please let me/us know the status of this and whether you can mark this thread as 'answered'.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Frank, I am not using any binary product, may be some others are using it like Michael, even not sure if JKATULKA is also using it or some other product. I was only trying to help JKATULKA by suggesting him to disable 3rd party product and see if he is able to view browse buttons on the window.

Almas, are you using Binary Stream Multi-Entity Management or some other Binary Stream product?

@MICHAEL: Just wondering, if it's some 3rd party product then how Microsoft allow this, as I know that while creating product for GP, you must keep this in mind that GP default functionalists should not get disturbed by your add on/product. Browse Buttons are major functionality to fetch records quickly how can they hide and totally remove this functionality, even they could hide GP buttons but provide their own browse buttons with the functionality.

It depends, we must not forget that if someone make these buttons disable then there must be some reason. May be the script on the buttons are not going with the modifications so they thought better to hide them? So first we need to identify the what addition they did on the field, like did they add any new field and saving some data on it on save similarly showing data when records get fetched, may be on browse button they were unable to fill that field.. it's all assumption and example that if they hide the buttons there must be some reason.

It's not difficult to make buttons visible, and I will prefer dexterity over vba.

    regards,

    almas

    Almas,

Thanks for your response and your reply is quite correct. Then which one is the better way for set visiblity to VCR button?  VBA customization?

    Dear Soma,

This is exactly what we were talking but there is one thing here, we can not set visibility of objects to 'SHOW' or 'UNLOCK' through field level security.

We can only hide, disable and lock...

    Regards,

    Almas

    RE: Account Maintenance VCR Buttons

    JKATULKA,

The customization for a third party add-on(you have installed) is set to the VCR button Invisible while opening Account Maintenance window.

They have wrote form trigger to set the VCR button invisible. If you open this modified window in modifier it will be show up the VCR button property as visible, because they are not change the VCR button behaviour in property level, they have changed in coding level.

So, If you want this button as visible, you can create a field level security for the window Acccount Maintenance to set the VCR button visible.

Leslie, I see your point. :)

I hope they are not doing a mistake by using multiple modified dictionaries, it usually creates a problem.
