Is there anyway to reduce Chart padding?

I have charts on my form and the padding is quite large in CRM 2013. I saw someone else that had modified a chart and reduced the padding, I'm now wondering how they did this. Any ideas?

My chart is the one on the left, the modified XML is on the right.

    Hi Hussman,

I am interested in this also. Did you ever figure this out?

Are you able to export the Chart XML out for the Account Balance chart with less padding?

It may give us a clue as to how this is done.

My thought was that the Chart is not the problem, it's the Chart Control of the actual Dynamics website.

Which means it's possible this could be changed for On-Premise installations, but I'm skeptical about doing it for CRM Online.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Adding the property IsMarginVisible="False" to the AxisX or AxisY will reduce the padding within the chart area (ie draw the data points spread out to be nearer to the borders of the chart area). This should not make any difference to the distance between title and chart though.

I suspect this is not padding as such, but something causing a mis-judgement when rendering the charts. Pie charts always fill the space available (one more reason they are a poor visualisation in CRM since all CRM pies are the same size, regardless of the values they represent). So when the form is being rendered, it has to look ahead and figure out how much space the chart control will have and then size the chart to fit. If you have things like fields or sections above the chart that get hidden by scripts, it may be that by the time it draws the chart it has more space than it expected, but the pie still gets drawn at the pre-determined size.

    Thanks for the reply Adam.

I utilise the IsMarginVisible parameter sometimes, but yes I agree there is something more going on with the rendering.

However my belief is that the website is mostly to blame for (by default) allowing too much padding around the chart control.

In my crude examples above I've highlighted the approximate real space available to the actual data displayed.

The yellow is reserved for the Chart Name and View Name, the Chart Controls (refresh, view records that make this chart, expand).

In my opinion this is way too much "padding" before we even allow ourselves to display the real reason we came here.... the data!

I'm sure most of us have thought this at one time or another. I guess the only thing left is to post on Connect and see if anyone else thinks it's a good idea to either reduce this wasted space, or give us some parameters to adjust this if desired.

Keen to hear anyone elses thoughts on this too.

    Cheers,

    Dan
