How to use ODATA in BC to export it to Excel?

Hello you,

I have the following problem:

I want to "export" data from Business Central to Excel using ODATA.

Now I have done the following for this:

I created a new user called ODATA. For this user I have also assigned a password in the user card.

Then I created a new web service of type page with number 21 (G/L items). After I updated the page, it then showed me the different URLs. I then copied the URL V4 and in Excel I called the ODATA feed function and pasted the URL. Then I get this error message:

Details: "OData: The specified URL does not refer to an OData service or feed.

What do I have to do here to solve the problem?

Furthermore I would like to know from you, which form of authentication I have to choose then and if I have to add something at my User ODATA, because I might have forgotten something.

Thank you :)

Always check the endpoint in the browser when figuring out what is going on. The user, for now at least, needs a web service key. You can create it on the user card. That with the username form your credentials. If it works in the browser it will work in excel. Is this on prem or saas? Saas no problem but on premise may miss settings on the service tier

    Hello,

I just ran the scenario myself using a WebService Key in OnPrem v17.3 and it does seem to work fine. A couple of things are required here:

    1. Basic Authentication in Excel = Basic Authentication as authentication type on the NST instance

    2. SSL cert as I am using https

    3. ODataV4 endpoint must be enabled, OData SSL is enabled and OData itself is enabled

    4. Note that  I used page 20, not 21

Within Excel, I am using Advanced properties so I can configure the key plus user name, etc.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks.
