CRM 2015 to 2016 Upgrade fails on Activity Feeds

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

We have an On Premise production environment which has been upgraded from CRM 3.0 to 4.0 to 2011 to 2013 and then to 2015.  All updates have been applied.  All is working fine in the live environment.

I have created a test environment for the upgrade to CRM 2016.  The server is installed fine. I have backed up the database and restored it to the new SQL Server.  On importing the organisation, it goes through the whole process but errors with "Error.Action Failed" "Microsoft.Crm.Tools.Admin.ImportActivityFeedsAction Restricted solution (Activity Feeds) cannot be updated."

I have tried everything I can find on the forums and finally tried to delete the Activity Feeds solution (showing v1.0.3.21214) from the live environment but even this fails with "Update solution error." "Default solution minor version must be 0.  This value cannot be modified."

    Hello,

    Thank you for your query.

According to the error message, it seems that there might be some inconsistencies in the database which are disallowing you to proceed ahead with the upgrade.

    If so,

these inconsistencies would be mentioned in the log file that gets generated once this fails.

You may refer those, they could be stored procedures, indexes etc which may be inconsistent and you would require to remove them from the database before you upgrade.

If possible, can you please share the whole log file here, I shall help you further.

    I hope this helps.

Do inform me if you have any update about the same. Feel free to reply here and I'll be glad to assist you.

    Thanks & Regards,

I know this thread is fairly old but we are also having the same issue and cannot remove the old Activity Feeds solution. We also get "Default solution minor version must be 0". Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

One way you can try is to remove the activity feed solution before you do the import by using plugin registration tool. You may need to change the value of ismanaged in [PluginAssemblyBase] and other tables base on the error log you get during the activity feed plugin deletion. You can email me if you need more hands.

    Hopefully that helps.

Wesley Fang, can you please give me a hand with the deletion procedure?

    I'm stuck with following error:

The evaluation of the current component(name=SdkMessageProcessingStepImage, id=9b097247-79c5-e011-8640-00155d883903) in the current operation (Delete) failed during managed property evaluation of condition: Microsoft.Crm.BusinessEntities.IsCustomizableCondition

    Hi Samwise,

Go to the SdkMessageProcessingStepImageBase database table in your CRM database, set isManaged to false to the record whose SdkMessageProcessingStepImageId = 9b097247-79c5-e011-8640-00155d883903. Then you can move on the upgrade.

    Wesley Fang, hello!

Thanks a lot for the clue! I'll try to set those keys. There are a lot of them I suppose. Will come back with report/detailes.

    Hi Wesley,

Thanks to you I managed to delete plugin by setting isManaged to 10 records in  SdkMessageProcessingStepImageBase and to records containing "ActivityFeeds" in the dbo.SdkMessageProcessingStepBase.

After that I've deleted all records left in dbo.SdkMessageProcessingStepBase containing "ActivityFeeds" (there was duplicates after "crm2013 to crm2015" upgrade I suppose).

But import process to CRM2016 still fails:

    ---

Error.ActionFailed Microsoft.Crm.Tools.Admin.ImportActivityFeedsAction ---> Microsoft.Crm.CrmException: There should not be more than one component instance for a solution being upgraded.  Solution id: 859584d7-8d98-434d-8f6c-9a0766e3c2d8

    ---

I'll try to delete record from dbo.SoutionBase and run update once again.
