How to use SCM license for PFE (Production Floor Execution)?

We are a worldwide company with production sites in many countries. We are using full SCM with advanced warehousing and using scanners. We have many production workers that use PFE screen (Production Floor Execution). In each production sites we have a lot of PC stations or Kiosk where our employees can scan their badge to start a production order.

We also have warehouses with PC stations.

Every PC station has its own login. If you run the PFE you need to have a SCM base license because the PFE is not listed in the Device license.

My question is what are other companies doing to stay compliant with the license structure from Microsoft?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Your assumption is incorrect. The manufacturing shop floor features are covered with either an Operations - Activity or a Device license. For the device license, you can read about this in the Dynamics 365 Licensing guide.

In case the role in your environment is not recognized as a device license, you can add an additional role to the user account used for the manufacturing execution features. See also: Licensing Advent Calendar - Day 7 - Device based security roles - Dynamicspedia

    Hi André,

    Thank you for your feedback.

However, how would you set up the Production Floor Execution with only the user role "Manufacturing execution workload machine operator"? There is no configure button in the form Production Floor Execution for that role.

In order to do that you would need to have the user role "Manufacturing execution workload shop supervisor" assigned to the user. Set up the configuration and then remove it again.

Which means that you would need to have a SCM license.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

For the role Manufacturing execution workload shop supervisor, indeed you need to have a SCM license. That should be linked to another user than the actual manufacturing execution operations.

I would recommend to have device users for the manufacturing execution operations and another user for Manufacturing execution workload shop supervisor. In case you link this role to all device users, they will indeed all need a SCM license which can be prevented. Usually the PFE configuration is done my a key-user or IT support. This is not to be done by any user logging in into the device part of Manufacturing execution.
