Newbie needing advise: Creating a Parent Account

Hello,

I work in healthcare with hospitals (child) and managing hospital systems (parent).  There can be multiple hospitals within a system all of which need to be treated as an account as there are multiple sales entry points.  Or a hospital might be independent, not part of a managing hospital system.  Our products may start in one hospital (child), but then be adopted across the system - or - our product may be sold in to the managing hospital system (parent) and pushed down to each hospital (child) in the system.  So when we enter in a new lead and qualify it, we need to be able to lookup and associate that account with a parent account.

Ex.

  1. Providence Hospital Portland is part of the Providence Health System, so we are currently calling the child: Providence Hospital Portland and parent: Providence Health System
  2. OHSU Hospital is an independent hospital and is not part of a system, so are currently calling the child: OHSU Hospital and parent: OHSU Hospital

Suggestions?

    Sorry, cut off.

How should we create the parent account in the Lead form, associate it with the child account - we are using the default of "Company" as the child account.

There is a Parent Account field (lookup) on the account entity, which you can display on the form. The child account (Providence Hospital Portland) would have the Province Health System account populated in this field.  parent account can have multiple child accounts.

Add another 1:N relationship from Account to Lead, so you have a second lookup field on the Lead record labelled "Parent Account".

Use filtering on the built-in "Account" lookup so the user is prompted to select an Account that has the Parent Account as it's parent (so if you select Providence Health System for Parent Account, the options for Account are filtered, and include Providence Hospital Portland.

When the Lead is qualified, either a new Account is created (if Account is blank) or an existing one is used. Configure the mappings for the Lead:Account 1:N relationship called "Originating Lead" so that the Parent Account field is mapped from Lead to Account. So when a new Account gets created by qualifying a Lead, the parent account will already be filled in.
