MO status changed from closed to open

Hi guys,

I'm conducting a survey here on a specific bug my company has stumbled upon and that Microsoft has not adressed as of yet. I've been told they might even never fix this. This is a major glich in the system and I need to know if our GP configuration is the only one that may generate this bug.

I've pasted the support case with each step to reproduce the bug. It should only take a few moments to figure out if this happens to you as well. Thanks for testing and giving me some feedback.

FOLLOW STEPS BELLOW

Manufacture Order Entry Window - Documented bug - Ropack inc.

Follow these steps to reproduce the horrible bug that changes the properties of a closed MO with the properties of an opened MO.

  • 1. Open MO Entry and type an open MO number
  • 2. Then change something in its properties that would normally ask you to save. (ex: Add a lot number in the Lot Number field)
  • 3. After changing something, do not save and select the MO number field and change it for an MO number that is of status Closed and hit tab button.
  • 4. You will receive the Save/Discard/Cancel window, to witch you will select Discard.
  • 5. Then you will receive the "This MO is closed" with View/Cancel window to witch you will select View.
  • 6. Then the Manufacture Order View window appears with the Closed MO information
  • 7. But then there is another Save/Discard/Cancel window that appears to witch you will select Save
  • 8. This malicious question has inevitably saved all of the Opened MO's information to your closed MO and you will find your closed MO is now Opened and all information has been lost from your closed MO and now represents the information from the Opened MO in the Manufacture Order Entry Window
  • 9. You can open MO Activity to verify these facts and you should find proof of this

I reproduced the steps and experienced the same behavior as you.  It replaced the data on my closed MO with the data from the open MO.

    I tested this on GP 2010 R2.

    OMG

So I am not alone! Thanks for the quick testing David. Can you imagine that I have over 15 users that periodically must open and close these windows... think about the risk and the trouble this causes. Even if i write a procedure and warn them to be carefull, they are under stress all day and sometimes are not vigilant enough.

I get a few of these cases a month.

I have audit trail activated on WO010032 so that I can go back in time to retreive the lost information so that I can correct the bugged MO.

I will be harassing Microsoft on this case once more and hope that eventually my call will be heard.

    Thanks,

    Jason Chung

I hear you Jason, found same behavior as well on this part of the world, I sent an inquiry to other colleagues around LatAm region that are heavy on MFG and determine if they are experiencing on this as the way you explained it sounded too familiar on some cases i helped troubleshoot for which we did not had an answer on "Why is this happening and how this happens"

We all be on the look for the clue, as basic it may sound, could it be that after editing the MO open for some reason memory is not released, and its discharged when the view window opens the record, so maybe a cleanup procedure or something there that wont allow save on the inquiry screen

All plausible causes that Microsoft will need to investigate. I thank you Francisco for your help and confirmation of the super MO swap bug.

    Sincerely,

    Jason Chung
