Export to Excel button producing PDF

Hi, I'm posting because I just haven't been able to find an answer Googling around.  My user reports...

It happens anytime I am trying to export data to excel (see screenshot below for example, but it is the same with any set of data), the file get saved by default in PDF. Now what I can do as a workaround is save the file, right click on it and choose Open with -> Excel. It does give me an error message that the file is corrupted, but once I repair it everything is fine and all the data is there.

I've checked, and her roles definitely have the Export to Excel permission.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks!  -Sandra

This sounds like it's due to settings on the local machine. Possibly if the user has set to open .xlsx files as PDF, or there maybe some configuration in the browser that is based on the Mime Type to save Excel files as PDF.

Can you check the file extension on the file when it is downloaded (and before you try opening it) ? If the extension is .xlsx, then the issue will be with the local machine settings, whereas if it is .pdf it could be a CRM issue (though I'm not sure how)

    Hi Sandra,

    Thanks for posting!

This does sound like a local machine issue - have you tried this on another machine, to rule your machine out as the problem?

The only other thing I can think here, is if your organisation has implemented a Third-Party tool, which allows you to export directly to PDF. These tools do exist and often useful, however in this case it sounds like if implemented, it could be causing you headache!

Try clicking the downwards arrow next to it and selecting those export options - do they work? Are they still exporting as PDF? This will better inform me.

Ah, thanks David. I like the Mime Type suggestion - hadn't thought of that one yet.  The file is downloaded as .pdf, but sounds like it's actually the expected Excel file.  I'll check it out...
