Recurring Billing - In advance and in arrears

Hello,

I'm trying to understand how Recurring Billing works. Following the link below I should be able to set up billing templates so recurring billing will create invoices as in advance/in arrears. I have tried updating service commitment packages with no luck.

Any ideas?
