Please remember that if you are using any external application, it might be necessary to define applicationFamily in your launch.json.

Also, if you are connecting to a SaaS environment, you don't need to add the "authentication" setting.

Have you checked that the sandbox name is correct?

You can also try to add the tenant to make sure you hit the correct sandbox if your login can access multiple sandboxes.
