Converting Opportunities from and Email and Keeping the Email as an Activity

My company is currently using CRM 2011 Online and the Outlook Connector. A big portion of our leads and opportrunities are created from emails. The email is tracked and then "Convert To"  is chosen from the CRM menu bar. When using this process for creating leads, the tracked email is automaticaly stored as an activity under that lead record. However, when creating opportunities, the email is not showing up as an activity.

Is there a setting that needs to be changed in order to keep the email as an activity for opportunities?

    Renee,

Is the email being shown at the "Closed Activities" section?

Ok, so, when you convert an email to a Lead, does the email show up on the Closed Activities?

Yes for leads, it shows up in Closed Activities.

    Hi Renee,

For clarity, are you converting the email to a Lead and then qualifying it, and looking for the original email against the Opportunity?  Or are you clicking on the email and using Convert To to create a new Opportunity?

    Hi Renee,

Asssuming you're using the following steps:

    1.  Email arrives in Outlook

    2.  Using the Outlook Add-In you're selecting Track in the CRM section of the ribbon

    3.  You then select Convert To and choose Opportunity

    4.  On the dialogue that appears, you're setting the fields however you choose.

In this scenario the Regarding field in the corresponding email activity in CRM is not getting set and this is why it is not associated to the Opportunity - this appears to be a bug to me.

As a workaround, after selecting Track in CRM - as per #2 above, open the email actvity in CRM.  This can be quickly done by sleecting the link in the email, which at this point should say "None".  From the ribbon on the CRM activity, in the Convert Activity section, select To Opportunity.  This will set the Regarding field appropriately so that the email is now associated to the Opportunity.
