Retaining original "created on" and "created by" when migrating from another environment

Hi,

I'm migrating from an on-premise install of CRM 2011 to CRM 2015 online. I'm working with a company to help with the migration, and while most data has come across fine, they tell me that there's a limitation where they can't retain the "created on" and "created by" attributes from the old system. Instead, these get auto-populated on record creation. That means that it looks like I created a ton of new leads, for example, the month that we did the inbound. It really throws off my reporting.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this to retain those values from the old system?

Thanks!

Danya

    Hi Danya,

You should try looking into the field OverriddenCreatedOn and acting on behalf of another user in the data import. When giving input to OverriddenCreatedOn field, CRM will take the date and put it in CreatedOn field. The "now" date it will put in the OverriddenCreatedOn field. Harder to explain than it really is.

ActOnBehalfOf lets you.... well act on behalf of another user (you need the system user id). The user must of course already exist in the target CRM organization.

PS. You cannot affect "ModifiedOn", nor can you ever update "CreatedOn" or "OverriddenCreatedOn", so develop your migration/import and test it.
