Custom Reports - CRM 4.0 Online

Can some one give me ideas on how to create custom reports involving parent-child entities like Invoice-Invoice Products, Quote-Quote Products etc in CRM 4.0 Online.

I need to create a Report similar to the built-in "Invoice" and the "Quote"  Report, which displays information from the parent record on top and then detail records at the bottom in a tabular format. I cannot edit built-in reports in CRM 4.0 Online and the Report Wizard is not allowing me to do much with the layout of the Fields. all I need to do is add some extra fields from the parent table into the the top part of the built in Report.

CRM 4.0 Online has so many customization options locked down that I have started hating it now !!! MS claims that most of the functionality that is available on the On-Premise version is also available in CRM 4.0 Online and misleads customers when it comes to customization capabilities. MS should provide all the information about it's Online version which are locked down in the product information. This would help customers choose the licensing right version of the product.

Creating customized reports is a very basic requirement any organization using CRM would have, but MS CRM 4.0 Online doesn't allow anything except Report Wizard to create Reports. Report Wizard doesn't have the capability for modifying the Layout of the Report - A very basic thing !!!

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Kona

At this time, CRM Online does not support custom SRS reports.  You can create reports using Word Mail Merge.

Can you create word mail merges that run silently? You dont neccesarily want to present a whole bunch of options to a user so they can break the merge.

    i.e. I want to

    A) Customise an invoice to my own look an feel

    B) Make it a one click process. Not a 10 click.

Are you partner hosted or are you on the Microsoft CRM online version,

    Partner hosted Alistair

Something tells me that it will require a plugin to be written to my requirments to achieve a silent mode mail merge

That is really strange as our customers on our hosted servers create custom reports through visual studio, connect to the hosted platform and then upload the report, and there is no restriction.  Have you tried to build reports and upload them or is you partner just not helping.

With plugins most hosting companies including us are a bit reserved and will only support ones they have written by there internal consulting team, which some hosting partners dont have.

Are you UK or US based as i'd be more than happy to help if we can

    Hi Alistair

It probably more the fact that I am a total newbie to CRM and figuring out the best approach at various things I want it to do.

I have excellent access and relationship with host but we are both new at CRM.

The report idea sounds like a good way to go

    Thanks

    Hi Mark

That is fine, you need to build your reports in Analysis studio which is an addition to visual studio, and from memory this is avalaible on your SQL server disk or via download.

You will be able to connect to your hosts reporting server and to your CRM and create RDL files that you can then import into CRM from your CRM UI.  Assuming there is no restriction on reporting.

Good Luck, and any problems we are happy to advise

    Alistair

    Hi Aly

That makes perfect sense and should avoid the whole wizard type feel

    Many Thanks
