We are starting a new process where we will be making a product to a specific stage.  When in this stage it can either be used as a finished product or we can add additional parts and then it becomes a different finished product.  What is the best way to handle this in Business Central.  Can we use the first BOM in the new BOM?  In doing this will system still reduce inventory of the first BOM.

Example - we are creating an ottoman.
Now we are going to add a back to the ottoman to create special item.

    Hello Lynn,

Yes, this can be handled effectively in Business Central by using a multi-level BOM or semi-finished item structure. In your example, the Ottoman can be produced as its own finished or semi-finished item, and then that same item can be used as a component in another Production BOM for the final product with the back attached.

When you produce the second item, Business Central will consume the Ottoman item from inventory along with the additional components required for the upgraded product.

Hope this answer will help you!
