# Contextual AI S2S Prod Application user - what is it and why is it doing so much data retrieval?

We've noticed a Microsoft added non-interactive user account (# Contextual AI S2S Prod Application) that is doing a large amount of data reads in our production environment but I can't find what it's purpose is. Does anyone have any idea? The account looks as though it was created at the end of February so I presume it came along with a wave release.

It's consistently doing >10x the data retrieval of an average user.

First thoughts were that it was Copilot related to the AI insight cards, but would like some further info before I start turning features off?

Kind regards.

    Hi Gary,

Great observation — the # Contextual AI S2S Prod Application is indeed a Microsoft-created non-interactive service principal introduced as part of recent Wave releases, likely tied to Copilot and AI-driven features in Dynamics 365.

    What it does:

    • This service account is used for server-to-server (S2S) communication.
    • It powers AI features such as insight cards, contextual suggestions, and Copilot interactions.
    • The high volume of data reads is expected, as it scans records to generate relevant insights and recommendations.

Why it's reading so much data:

    • AI features often require background data processing to surface insights.
    • It may be indexing or analyzing entities like emails, activities, opportunities, or cases depending on your environment and enabled features.

    What you can do:

    • If you're concerned about performance or data usage, you can:
      • Review which Copilot or AI features are enabled in your environment.
      • Use Power Platform Admin Center or Audit Logs to monitor activity.
      • Disable specific features temporarily to test impact.

Let me know if you'd like help identifying which features are linked to this account or how to manage them safely.

Please verify if this response was helpful.

    Best regards!
