Using License Plate Number same as Batch Number

Unique situation and I would like to request for some answers / opinion / feedback on below,

In existing setup,

Batch number is :

  • Never duplicated (including product-batch combination)
  • Never ever split into more than one warehouse, location, status or product dimension
  • Never mixed item bin/pallet
  • Always a single unit (e.g.  1000 kg unit)

With current Non-D365 setup,
(with above assumptions always true) batch number (apart from intended tracking and tracing functions) is also used in similar way to License Plates to print the pallet labels and do all warehousing mobile transactions.

Existing setup has worked without any issues and also there is no scope of printing additional License Plate info on the existing labels.

SO Question is:
If i replicate the same setup in D365 where

  • License Plate will always be same as Batch Number  (Not using auto generated License Plates or even possibly custom development), so that  all the out-of-box advantages of D365 advanced warehousing functionalities using License Plates can be utilized e.g.
  • Label Printing
  • LP Mobile Scanning  (Instead of slow Non LP scanning)   etc

What could be possible disadvantage / issues with this setup?

Thoughts?

I have the same question (0)

If that's the case.. than instead of 'Batch number', can't you just use 'LP' as batch number instead of duplicating data in both fields.

    Hi JK,

I wanted to know if currently you are using WMS for advance warehouse capabilities? Are you using batch numbers for this item ? Like Satish said, you would have to give the same number in the license plates & the batch number. There would be no trouble using this configuration, you can use license plates as your batch numbers un less you have requirement of expiry features for this.

    Warm Regards,

    Zain
