Custom Server Side API?

Is there a way to create a custom api that can publish data to a Plugin registered on the server side? Ideally this would be something that I can talk to via javascript on the client. 

I am aware of the Azure integration, but from my understanding it only works with CRM data. I would like to be able to send custom data that is not just entity data.

Essentially I want to get as close as I can to writing code server side that handles a http request. 

I am on a Online instance.

    as far as I understand you question, you want to call a custom action from an external website using javascript.  A custom action is a message that you define in CRM in which you can pass the data you want. Once the custom action is fired, server side code is executed. Code you develop :)

    The problem you will run into is that you have to authenticate yourself when calling the action. This is something which is really hard using javascript.

    I wrote a couple of blog articles on this matter in which I came up with workarounds for this problem. Perhaps these articles will inspire you to solve your problem:

    The idea behind these proof of concepts is that you use the .NET framework to handle the authentication.
