Map values from Child Entity to Parent Entity real time

Hi everyone!

I have this request.

I have created a Package entity which has the fields Number of Visits. On my Case entity i have a lookup field on the Package Entity and a field Remaining Number of Visits.

What i want is when i choose the Package from the lookup , to map the value of Number of Visits to my Remaining Number of Visits field on my case. Although i have done this with a workflow , it won't show the value real time like Javascript. It requires a number of refreshes to bring that value.

Is there a way to do this and display the value instantly ?

Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

Have you considered usage of Quick View forms? In that way you can avoid creation of additional fields and synchronization of data.

The reason why i'm using a lookup field is because i want to users to add only one Package. With Quick View forms that would mean i have to create a Subgrid . Also i want later one to reduce that number of remaining number of visits when a service activity is mark as completed. I think there is no way to interfere with the fields in a subgrid using a workflow.

I'm really sorry but there is no direct relation between subgrid and quickview form (or may you know something I'm not aware of). Those components are 100% independent. The sense of quick view form is to give user ability to see in that quick view form representation of parent entity selected in lookup.

Can you please explain me how to do that from a Lookup field?

    Thanks for your help !

I will have to see if this works for my case. This will only show the fields from another entity , what i would like to do is to map a field from Child Entity to Parent , and then change that field on the Parent Entity to a value i want.

Ok. If you want to map - then you can use Real-Time workflow to map those values.

Another way is to create a custom button on child opportunity and use pass parameter , to pass parameter fetch the record from parent entity field you will select in opportunity and pass values(stuff) to those fields in parent entity ....

    pass parameter: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334375.aspx

    fetch:

    arunpotti.wordpress.com/.../get-lookup-id-text-entityname-in-crm-using-javascript
