Internal Part Numbering System Support in BC

Does Business Central have any native support for internal parts numbering systems? The issue we deal with is that we have a many to one relationship with our parts. Our BOMs have an internal part number that maps to many different manufacturer's part numbers (Parts are completely interchangeable). We need to continue using both internal part numbers (for BOMS) and manufacturer's part numbers (POs, inventory), does Business Central support this?

I know internal part numbering systems are a big issue in manufacturing but I have not found any functionality dealing with this in business central.

Thanks.

EDIT:
Thank you to everyone for the suggestions. The Item Reference is useful, however, it is tied to individual vendors and that is an issue. We have an internal part number (useful only internally) and then we have the manufacturer part number (useful only externally but not vendor specific). Is there a way to use references but have them be agnostic to a particular vendor? I can’t seem to add an additional item reference type.

It seems to be the relationship between Item and Item Substitution. You can try the following standard functions to see if they meet your needs.

If not, customization may be required.

    Thanks.

I agree with Valentin on the use of Item References to handle this requirement.  Your main Item No. will be your internal parts number, and you will use Item References to store the various Manufacturers Part Numbers, which can be utilized on POs if linked to the Vendor.
