Creating a new company in GP 2010

I started to create a new company using GP Utilities.  At one point in the process, you can decide to set up the company at a later time, to set it up using the configuration wizard, or to migrate existing data using a migration wizard.  I wasn't sure which to choose, so left my GP Utilities session up to research which option was best for us.  As things go, I was side tracked with something else and by the time I came back, my GP Utilities session was dropped.

I attempted to start again using the same company name, but GP Utilities states that the company name has already been used and to enter to different name.  How do I pick up where I left off with this company or delete it so that I can start over?

There would be a couple of ways. Log into GP and go to anotehr compnay. Then Tools->Utilities->System->Delete Company. You can then return to GP Utilities and Add the Sample Company. You can also just launch GP Utilitiles and Choose to Re-Add Sample Company. If this does not work just try the first option.

Thanks for the suggestion, Richard!  Unfortunately, I must have done something to mess things up so that I cannot log into GP now.  I am thinking of copying our production data into our dev environement in hopes that this fixes my not being able to log into GP issue and allow me to start over from the beginning.  Do you know what tables are impacted in creating a new company?  I see a new DB that was created with the name I entered, but I am thinking that there are tables somewhere else (in the Dynamics DB maybe) that have been updated with the partially created company.

I don't see how by creating a new company stops the ability to log in. What message are you getting?

You should have seen a new record appear in the DYNAMCIS..SY01500 table for this new compnay.

I see the company I added in the Sy01500 table, so that is good.

The message we are getting (myself and others) when we try to log into GP is a Dexterity Runtime error:  You do not have permission to open this file.

Check you DYNAMICS.SET and see where your REPORTS.DIC and FORMS.DIC files are located. You need to have full control of the folder in which they reside. You also want to have full control of the program fodler in which GP resides.

I agree with Richard on this. By the time you hit that wizard at the end the company is already created successfully.
