SOP10100 REFRENCE field

Hello, does anyone know if this field is used by GP and if so, what is it used for?  We need to store a value that is 20 characters in the SOP Header table for matching outside transactions and this field does not look like it's used by GP.  Thanks.

    It's used from the Sales Document Detail Entry window (blue expansion arrow next to Document No. on Sales Transaction Entry) and the GL Reference field.
