Automatic data input from gas chromatograph to D365

Dear Experts,

We are considering the introduction of Dynamics 365. Is it possible to automatically (without manual input) capture measurement data of test equipment such as gas chromatographs in the quality control function area of D365? The measurement data of the test equipment can be output as a text file (CSV / TSV) and storaged in dedicated PC attached to gas chromatograph .

thanks in advance.

I have the same question (0)

    Dear half,

I assume you are talking about D365 Finance and Operations.

Yes, you can do that for sure, but you need to understand and configure some kind of data transport to the D365FO cloud resources.

First you need to idetnify the correct data entity, could be for example "Quality order line result" in your case

To verfify this do some sample import manually.

If this works you need any kind of recurring data transport from your measurement file inside the D365FO internal blob storage and a recurring import of your data to D365FO.

This can be achieved be usiing a

General information about the required process and the setup using API Integration can be found here Recurring integrations - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Docs

A complete description of the setup using RIS can be found here Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations: Recurring Integration Manager for File Uploads - Logan Consulting

If you are workung with Power Automate or LogicApp you also may need a secured local Datagateway to be accessable from/to the Cloud Services.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear Andreas,

Thank you for your advice. This is very helpful in considering our new system scheme.

I thought that it was essential to link the system as follows, but if "LIMS" can be removed,
it can be a huge benefit.
     [Test equipment (gas chromatograph, etc.)]
      ↓
[LIMS (system as shown in the following URL)]
      ↓
     [ERP (D365, etc.)]

If you have the knowledge and experience, please let me know. Is it strange to directly connect
the test equipment and ERP as follows? (As far as I know, there aren't many cases in Japan.)

Using a third-party integration platform is possible, but by no mean mandatory. And you're definitely not limited to a single product of a particular company. There are clearly many ways how to send a CSV file from one system to another.

You should ask yourself what benefit would you get from using LIMS, in comparios with other options. I'm not even sure if LIMS has many capabilities for integration. A strong argument may be if you're already using LIMS for other things and you want to utilize it for this integration as well. But if it can't talk to F&O, it doesn't solve your current problem and you still need some integration component.
