Data Transfer Between Companies

A GP user needs to transfer non-transaction data from one company to another.  This data includes customer master records, vendor master records, and item inventory master records.  Are there any pre-defined routines for this?  Should I use system generated macros?  Should I use sql scripts?

 Thanks.

Check out the Copy Company, Automated Solution, available on Customer Source.  It may meet your needs.  Once installed you can inspect exactly which tables it will copy from company to another.

Thanks djp.  I signed on to Customer Source, entered 'Copy Company' as a search phrase and got several links titled 'Automated Solution.'  I see utilities for copying the company setups, are you sure that includes master records?

    Greg,

The Copy Company utility does copy master records in some modules.  When you copy the setup in Financals for example, the entire chart will be copied to the destination company.  I beleive that Receivables and Payables bring the Customers and Vendors also.  Payroll, however will not bring employees between companies.

Once you have the utility intalled, run it.  when you get to the point in the wizard that you must pick the modules you wish to copy, there is a small 'Info' button.  When you click it you will see a list of tables that the utility will copy for each module.

If you are unsure of the content of any of the tables you can use reourse description from within GP to put the tables technical name with the table number.

     Good Luck,

    Dan
