I used CRM last sdk and created a plugin to update crm records.
I just discovered taht we can update deactivated records, is it normal ?
I seems to introduce a line of failure in data coherence ?

    Christian,

That looks like a platform bug for me.

    Hi,

Of course you can update inactive records using SDK and it's very good you can do so. There are some exceptions from this rule (like activated quotes) but in general you can do this.

If you are writing program using SDK it's up to you handle data properly so this is not strange at all (and for sure not a Bug) rather what makes Dynamics CRM so great and flexible platform. The less constraints from SDK the better, constraints should be for users not Developers.

I can give many examples when this comes in handy because it made me cry so often in the past when I could not update closed Opportunity for example. I'm not sure if you are working in many CRM projects but if not you'll be surprised how often Customer wants to do something with disabled records.

From what you say, it was not the case before, as former CRM dev as me and Andrii remember.

In the past (when ?) you had to reactivate before being able to update a deactivated record.

Do you know when this change occured ?
I don't remember seing it written in sdk new features, but I may have missed some of them.

    Hi,

I don't know the exact CRM version or rollup. I remember that I had a problem with updating closed opportunities in CRM 2015 so opportunities must have changed recently. But the other records work like that since very long time. I even checked CRM 2011 and it works without a problem. I can check CRM 4.0 if you wish, I have still one project that uses this version.

Maybe you remember problems with some specific entities - SystemUsers, BusinessUnits, Opportunities etc.  because they usually work different from normal entities.
