I notice that there are 2 fields in the schema of Customers for SIC Codes. However the values for SIC codes do not appear to be available.
Are there any plans at Microsoft to use these codes or is anyone aware of a customization that allows SIC codes to be mainted by customer?

I can't say whether or not there are plans to use those fields. You could add them to the Customer Maintenance screen using Customization Manager if you want to do that. I can't find that anybody has asked about these fields in the past several years.
