Adding Custom Fields - To items

I have been tasked with finding out to add custum fields to GP.

Background / Need - I work for a software developer and our current invoice does not allow for us to add the start date and expiration date at the product level.

For example I would like to have an entry field that would show the term for each product listed on the invoice. (Item A ... Start Date 4/17/2010 Expiration Date 4/16/2011)

Any idea's or help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

James

    Hi James,

You can enable the Item's tracking option to be Lot-tracked and use the Lot Category to record your date details (Lot Category has three Alphanumeric fields and two date fields).  This is straightforward and does not require customisation, only configuration and changes in business process upon receiving of lot-tracked items.  For detailed instructions, please refer to Chapter 6 Lot Category Setup in the Inventory Control manual that is shipped with the product.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Dencio

I guess I am still a bit confused. Not all items will have the same term. I am rying to get a field for entry on the sales order for each item so that we can have a start date and end date for software maintenance terms.

You might want to consider using Extender if you own it.  I have a similar issue where I am using PO's and the PO Quantities are tracked in "Days" and those days are calculated by the difference between a start and end date of the PO.  I decided against using existing date fields in the PO lines or header to make sure we don't hijack them and need to use them for their real purpose in the future.  So I used 2 Extender Date Fields.

Also, look into the User Defined fields in SOP at the bottom of the entry screen.  You can rename then in SOP setup.  I think there are some date fields there.

    James,

I will suggest to go with Dencio logic creating Item as Lot Item where you can track Lot Item Expiry Date, but it is little cumbersome to do entry in Purchase , Sales and Inventory Transaction everytime you need to select lot information.

Or you can used simple vba and Dynamics GP Modifier to add field in Item and show it in Sales Transaction Item Details Window.

    Thanks

I am guessing that the GP modifier is an add on? It appears greyed out when logged in as an sa.

I would like to add the fields as mentioned.

     Thanks,

     James

    James,

You need to buy modifier license.

    Thanks

Extender is easier than Modifier.  If you get the Enterprise Edition you get to use logic in your windows.

And it survives updates and upgrades!!
