How to relate a fax activity to a contact

Within CRM 2015, I am trying to create a Fax activity entity view that displays the Subject and other fax fields along with some corresponding contact entity fields based on the contact specified in the “to” field of the fax.

When I create the new view and attempt to add columns, the best built-in relationship option I see is the “Regarding (Contact)” relationship, which allows me to add the contact fields I want. However, when I test the view, all of the contact fields are blank, even though a valid contact is present in the “To” field of the activities. My guess is that the activity is being joined on the “Regarding” field of the activity, which has my Quick Campaign, which, of course, will not match with the contact entities.

Based on this, I attempted to find a way to create a relationship that relies on the “To” field of the activity, but I did not see any way to do this within the New Relationship form. Does anyone have a suggestion for creating my view or how to relate a Fax Activity to a Contact based on the Fax “To” field ?

The problem is that the to field can have many parties it and so you need to make a view of Activity Parties - this can then join to the contract via the party contact field.

    Hope this helps

I like the idea Scott - but not sure how we would actually do that?

Activity Parties are hidden - not available through either Advanced Find  or Customizations>Components>Entities.  So you can't create either a personal or systems view.

Would it need a web resource / iFrame?

You cold develop a custom webresource - but a report wizard would do it - if you use Fax as your primary entity and then Activity Party as your secondary - you can then insert the Fax fields as group fields and then use the Related Activities (to Activity Party) and select the Contact fields for the detail row.

This would then be able to be run from a fax record.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott
