Hi!

We are running D365FSCM on version 10.0.35 and I am looking into the diffrent uses and functions of category hierarchys. More specifik using them for attaching attributes to products so that we can fetch that information externaly.
I cannot find any newer documentation regarding the diffrent category hierarchys online, only older documentation that doesn´t seem to apply to the current category hierarchys.
Does anyone know where I can find this information or maybe someone can explain the functionality and uses for the diffrent category hierarchys?
The ones in bold are the more intressting ones.

The categorys I can see in our enviorment are:
Procurement
Sales
Commerce
Commodity
Derived financial
Supplemental retail
Retail channel navigation
Packing material
Common data
Cost management
Traceability

Many thanks in advance!

    Hi,
It is true that there is not much useful documentation on this subject available at the moment, but here is a brief overview of these categories:
    • Procurement: Use for procurement catalogs and purchasing activities. dynamics-tips.com.
    • Sales: Use for organizing products for sales activities. dynamics-tips.com.
    • Commerce: Used to manage categories related to e-commerce, including online sales channels, e-commerce activities, etc.
    • Commodity Code: Use for compliance with industry standards and government reporting requirements.
    • Derived Financial: Use for organizing financial categories that can be derived from financial dimensions.
    • Supplemental Retail: Use this hierarchy type for any additional retail category hierarchies that you want to create. For example, in the spring, you have a promotion for swimwear. Therefore, you include your swimwear products in a separate category hierarchy and apply the promotional pricing to the various product categories.
    • Retail Channel Navigation: Create a retail channel navigation category hierarchy to set up a category structure for products that you offer through an online store. You define the category hierarchy and assign products, product attribute groups, and attribute values to the categories. Then assign the category hierarchy to an online store.
    • Packing Material: Used to manage categories of various packing materials, such as categorization based on material type, size, etc.
    • Cost Management: Used to manage categories related to cost control and management, such as cost centers, cost projects, etc.
    • Traceability: Used to manage categories related to product traceability, such as tracking raw materials, etc.

    Best regards,
    Kevin
