Does using Call Centre in F&O require a Commerce license

Hi all,

We are implementing a payment integration that allows users to take payments directly from the sales order screen in Finance and Operations. We plan to use Call Centre because it supports prepayments and related functions.

We have received differing opinions on whether this will trigger a Commerce licence. The Microsoft documentation classifies Call Centre as an operations activity, so we are trying to confirm the real world impact.

Has anyone seen a Commerce licence requirement flagged simply for using Call Centre to process payments within Finance and Operations. Any clarification or examples would be appreciated.

Thank you

    Hi

Using the Call center functionality specifically to process payments in Finance and Operations can indeed trigger a Commerce license requirement.

    Reason:

    • The Call Center module is part of Dynamics 365 Commerce, not Finance or Supply Chain. When you enable a Call Center channel and use its features (such as prepayments, fraud alerts, order holds, or payment processing tied to call center orders), the system considers this Commerce functionality.
    • Even if you are working from the Sales Order screen in F&O, once you activate the Call Center channel and its associated features, the duties and privileges tied to those roles are mapped to Commerce licensing. However, if you are only processing sales orders in Finance and Operations without enabling the Call Center channel or its specific features, then a Commerce license is not triggered. In this case, only a Finance or a SCM license is applicable.

The safest way to confirm is by checking the Security Configuration in your environment. The best place to verify the same is System Administration -> Security -> Security Configuration -> View Permissions for the roles you plan to assign. The header will show you the required license type.

    Security Roles leveraged:
    - Call Center Sales Representative and Call center manager

Hope this helps. Happy to answer questions, if any.

    Hi Ahmed,

As mentioned by Navneeth, the call center feature is part of Commerce. At least for setting up the call center channels, the privilege Maintain call center channels is triggering the Commerce license. While using the sales order form, you need to check if the user will use any additional menu item that might be related to the call center functionality. Then you can check the license related to the menu items.

Can you share where exactly you read about Operations - Activity? Did you read this in the Dynamics 365 licensing guide?

Note that all information about licenses has been deprecated from the View permissions form that was mentioned by Navneeth. You can use the Licenses Usage Summary page for relevant licensing inquiries.

    Hello Ahmed,

You need an Operations-Activity license for using Call center, As mentioned in the D365 Licensing Guide.
