Printing Document Issue via Terminal Service

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi,

I encounter a problem in following environment:-
1) Dynamics GP and modified reports are located in Terminal Server
2) Users login to GP application via remote desktop connection
3) When print PO or SO invoice document form, the alignment will run
from time to time.

Does anyone encounter such issue and can suggest any alternative
solutions?

Thank you.

    Hi Pui San,

Please be reminded that user session in TS will have a dynamic printer settings on TS session, thus ensure that the printer drivers both on the user workstation and the Terminal server are compatible.  This should be seamless for printer compatible with GP.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Dencio

    Hi Dencio,

In the terminal server, we are selecting the printer of our local machine to generate the report printing. Are we suppose to install the local printer driver into the terminal server as well?

    Thank you,

    Hi Pui San,

Yes, you need the printer driver installed on the server if you are printing from a printer attached to the machine that a user is using.  The user workstation and the Terminal Server must agree to which printer driver to use during user's session in the terminal server.  This is a requirement when you configure the user's RDP connection to use/default printer locally attached to their machine.

    Cheers,

    Dencio

Printing is a complete pain in TS 2003.  It is getting better with each new release (i.e. 2008) but still not quite where it needs to be.  There are some 3rd party printer applications such as thinprint for TS.  I do agree with Dencio that installing the driver on TS for the person's local printer should get it printing correctly.  We typically print to printers that are on our print server to get a little better performance out of TS.  Even if it is someone's local printer, we try and hang it off the network (if it doesn't have a built in NIC then get a wireless print server) and add it to our print server, giving only the individual user permissions to it if necessary.
