Entity Types in Dynamics 365 CRM

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

Recently while having discussion on Entity Types, I came across to know that "Activity" is also an Entity type in CRM.

I have come across the following entity types in CRM:

  • Business Entities
  • Custom Entities
  • System Entities

Can anyone clarify whether activity is also considered as an Entity Type in CRM?

    Basically
There are Three Type of Entity in D365 V 9.0

    1. System
Can be Activity Entity.  Ownership is always User/Team.
Can be Virtual Entity.Ownership is always Organization.
Can be Standard Entity (Non Activity/Virtual Entity).Ownership can User/Team or Organization.
    2. Business
Can be Activity Entity.  Ownership is always User/Team
Can be Virtual Entity.Ownership is always Organization.
Can be Standard Entity (Non Activity/Virtual Entity).Ownership can User/Team or Organization.
    3. Custom
Can be Activity Entity.  Ownership is always User/Team.
Can be Virtual Entity. Ownership is always Organization.
Can be Standard Entity (Non Activity/Virtual Entity).Ownership can User/Team or Organization.

MSDN can tell you more on this.

Yes, it is. While creating a custom entity you can create three type of entities:

    > Standard Entity - Can be used to store data for general purpose and it is mostly used.

    > Virtual Entity - Special Type of entity which just store definition of the entity structure but does not have any table associated with it.

    > Activity Type entity - A special type of entity which is used to store all the interaction with the customer and have special party list attributes like From, Sender, Regarding... etc.

    Hope it will help.

    Thanks

Activity Entities are used to track activities that you may wish to track when contacting your customers.  Out of the box, you get Activity Entities such as Phone Calls, Emails, Appointments, etc., but you can also configure your own custom activity entities
