Hi,

Currently, we have a person doing the Location Code assignment for each of the sales orders we have in Dynamics depending on the customer’s location and stock availability at the closest warehouse.

However, due to the increase amount of Sales Orders and the high quantity of SKUS, this assignment work is starting to be challenging for us, and mistakes have started to happen.

I wanted to know if it is possible for Dynamics to assign automatically a Location Code in a Sales Order for the nearest warehouse with stock. Is there a framework in Dynamics to put in place such a system?

We have brought the idea to the team that sold us our Dynamics licenses, but the answer we received from them is “that it is difficult”.

Is it part of another Dynamics module?

Adding to what Marco replied...

I am not sure how you have setup the Customer locations but I hope they are Ship-to Addresses under the Customer. You can setup each Ship-to Address with the closest Location to the Ship-to Address to save shipping costs. As Marco noted, if the Inventory is unavailable, you can check on the Line Availability by Location and update the Line with another Location Code.

One note.. I have had customers, who have such large volume that administering the selection of the Location based on availability, they wanted automated on entry. We had to create an extension and a validation upon entering the Location Code and Quantity to validate the Location availability and then switch if needed.

Our "Customers" are big chains like Home Depot, Costco etc, they feed us Delivery information for the final address. Unfortunately, this is why we can't use the Location Code on the customer card.

Is there another Dynamics module that have this Location assignment logic built-in?

Hello,

You can set location code on the customer card (that is nearby the warehouse location). The location code specifies from which location sales to this customer will be processed by default.

If that specific location is out of stock, a warning can be shown that the inventory is not sufficient and from the sales order page a new location can be chosen. Or you transfer inventory from one location to the other via a transfer order. I do not think there is logic in standard that chooses the location automatically based on inventory availability.
